Elmhurst Shop Wants Glass Pipe Sale Ban Ended
Local business may not survive unless it gets permission to sell pipes, shopkeeper says.
ELMHURST, IL — An Elmhurst shopkeeper is asking the city to end its ban on the sale of glass pipes, which are used for smoking marijuana and vaping. Otherwise, he said, his business may not last.
At Tuesday's City Council meeting, Dawood Salim of Little Shopper, 697 N. York St., noted other towns are allowing the sale of glass pipes. He said he had called state government offices and that none had an objection to stores selling glass pipes now that recreational marijuana is legal. But he said his business had no interest in selling marijuana, only glass pipes.
Salim said his business is losing customers to shops in other towns because of the ban on selling glass pipes.

"With this pandemic, we are already losing business," Salim told the council. "With all this, we need your support, and without your support, we can't even prolong the business anymore."
Mayor Steve Morley and the aldermen did not weigh in on the ban.
