Elmhurst Store Makes Illegal Sale: Police

In another case, a resident was the victim of a gift card scam.

ELMHURST, IL – In recent days, Elmhurst police responded to cases involving an illegal sale at a business, a gift card scam, disorderly conduct, trespassing, car burglaries, retail theft, a drunk person and a domestic disturbance. Here is information from the latest local police reports:

Illegal sale

  • A 69-year-old employee at Little Shopper, 697 N. York St., was cited about 4 p.m. Thursday on a charge of selling Delta 8 synthetic marijuana containing THC at the business. The city barred such sales late last year.

  • A resident in the 300 block of North Highview told police Thursday that she received a call from a stranger. She provided the stranger with login information for her bank account. The stranger deposited seven checks into her account and instructed her to buy Target gift cards. The resident bought the cards and provided the suspect with the security codes over the phone.

Disorderly conduct

  • Disorderly conduct occurred shortly before midnight Thursday in the 100 block of East Schiller Street. An investigation is pending. (Editor's note: The original version of this item stated the incident occurred at a restaurant in the block, but the restaurant owner said it was closed at the time and no one was at the eatery.)

Trespassing

  • A security officer at Elmhurst University, 190 S. Prospect Ave., told police Friday that a man was living with his girlfriend on campus in violation of the school's code of conduct. The man was given a no-trespass warning, informing him he was barred from university property.

Car burglary

  • Someone burglarized a car and stole purses about 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the 300 block of West Lake Street. An investigation is pending.
  • An unlocked Volkswagen Jetta was burglarized between 9 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. in the 700 block of North Church Road. Three bags were stolen.

Retail theft

  • A man was seen on surveillance video hiding boxes of perfume and cologne in his pockets about 6 p.m. Friday at Kohl's, 303 S. Route 83. The suspect then got into a white 1995 Toyota Corolla.

Drunk person

  • A drunk person was found on the ground semi-conscious about 6 p.m. Saturday at Prospect and Madison. The person was taken to Elmhurst Hospital.

Car theft

  • A resident in the 100 block of Fullerton Avenue told police Sunday that a man stole his car while the resident was using the bathroom nine days earlier. The man has taken the car before, but has always returned it. That wasn't the case this time.

Domestic disturbance

  • Officers responded to a domestic disturbance about 9 p.m. Sunday in the 100 block of North Willow Road. Two people acknowledged arguing. They agreed to separate for the night.
