Woman Puts Heart Into Elmhurst Vandalism, Gets Her In Trouble

ELMHURST, IL – In recent days, Elmhurst police handled cases such as vandalism, an estate sale theft, porch piracy and trespassing. Here is information from the latest reports:

Vandalism with a heart

• A 24-year-old Franklin Park woman was cited about 2 p.m. Tuesday on a charge of damaging city property. A police officer saw the woman draw a heart shape into freshly poured concrete at the northeast corner of Schiller Street and Palmer Drive. She admitted to the damage. The concrete company returned to the site and resurfaced the damaged area.

Estate sale theft

• A 70-year-old Melrose Park man was arrested Tuesday on a theft charge. Police said the incident occurred about 9 a.m. Saturday in the 200 block of South Poplar Avenue. While working an estate sale, the victim placed his iPad in the garage and left it unattended for an hour. Upon returning, his iPad was stolen, police said. The 70-year-old was released.

Porch piracy

• Multiple packages were stolen from front porches about 3 p.m. Monday in the 600 block of South Cedar Avenue. An investigation is pending.

Theft

• A construction worker told police that someone stole his iPhone Monday at a work site near York Street and Crestview Avenue.

Trespassing

• A 56-year-old Elmhurst man who lives in the 700 block of South Hawthorne Avenue was arrested about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday on a trespassing charge. Police said he returned to a house in the 200 block of East Third Street, where he had been banned. He was released.
