Elmhurst Virus Case Number Skyrocketing: County

Yet no resident has died from the coronavirus since early June, agency says.

ELMHURST, IL — The number of coronavirus patients at Elmhurst Hospital has more than doubled in the last week, according to hospital statistics.

As of Wednesday, the hospital had 24 such patients, up from 10 a week ago. The hospital hasn't seen so many coronavirus patients since mid-May.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the hospital has seen 190 deaths from the coronavirus. One of those deaths was in the last week, the first one in more than a month.

Elmhurst Hospital serves an area far larger than Elmhurst.

In Elmhurst itself, the coronavirus case number since the pandemic's beginning has skyrocketed in the last week, to 4,557, 62 more than a week ago, according to the DuPage County Health Department. This is the highest rate of increase in months.

At the same time, no Elmhurst resident has died from the coronavirus since early June, according to the county health department. Such local deaths total 68.
