Elmhurst Virus Rate Falls In Last Week: County

ELMHURST, IL — The number of new coronavirus cases last week in Elmhurst dropped from the previous few weeks, according to the DuPage County Health Department.

As of Sunday, the city had seen 4,851 cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up 56 from a week before. The week before last, Elmhurst experienced an increase of 79 new cases. The numbers remain high compared to most of the summer.

As of Sunday, the number of coronavirus-related deaths in Elmhurst stayed the same in the last week, at 70. The mortality rate among those locally with the coronavirus is 1.5 percent.

As of Sunday, Elmhurst had 104 coronavirus cases per thousand people since the pandemic's beginning. The figure compares to 89 in Darien, 97 in La Grange Park, 100 in DuPage County and Hinsdale, 109 in Clarendon Hills, 110 in Western Springs and suburban Cook County, 113 in Burr Ridge and 130 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands).

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,564,386, up 1.7 percent from a week earlier, according to the state Department of Public Health. The number of confirmed deaths so far is 24,261.

Nationally, 40.9 million cases of the coronavirus have been reported, up 2.6 percent from the week before, according to the Centers for Disease Control. A total of 656,318 people have died from the virus in the United States.
