Elmhurst Weekly Virus Caseload Drops By Half: County
Five more coronavirus deaths were reported in Elmhurst last week.
ELMHURST, IL — Elmhurst's weekly coronavirus caseload dropped by more than half in the last week, according to the DuPage County Health Department.
As of Sunday, the city had seen 9,036 cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up 210 from a week before. That's higher than the previous week's 528. The city hit a weekly record of 599 earlier in January.
The number of coronavirus-related deaths in Elmhurst increased by five in the last week, to 84. The mortality rate among those locally with the coronavirus is 0.9 percent.

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 2,957,563, a 2.1 percent increase from the previous week, according to the state Department of Public Health. The number of confirmed deaths so far is 31,296.
Nationally, 76.2 million cases of the coronavirus have been reported, a 3 percent increase from the previous week, according to the Centers for Disease Control. A total of 898,216 people have died from the virus in the United States.
