Elmhurst Woman Dies In Northside Crash: Police

She was walking across the street from a gas station when she was struck, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – A 74-year-old Elmhurst woman died in a crash Friday morning on the city's north side, police said in a news release.

About 6:30 a.m., officers were called to the crash at York Street and Diversey Avenue, police said.

The woman was taken to Elmhurst Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, the news release said. Police have not released her name.

Police said a 73-year-old Elmhurst man was driving a Toyota minivan north on York when he struck the 74-year-old, who was walking east from the Shell gas station on the west side of York.

She walked across the two southbound lanes, the center turn lane and the inside northbound lane of York, police said. The Toyota collided with the woman in York's outside northbound lane, on the north side of Diversey.

The road was closed for four hours as police investigated.

The crash occurred when it was dark, with partial fog and rain, police said. The crash resulted in front-end damage to the minivan, police said.
