Elmhurst Woman Scammed By Serbian Relative For 6 Years: Cops

In another case, a DUI suspect was charged with having a stun gun without a firearm owner's card, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving a Serbian scam, a stun gun, domestic battery, retail theft, DUI and battery. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Serbian scam

  • A woman told police Friday that her mother in the 200 block of East First Street was scammed by a family member in Serbia. The fraud lasted from May 19, 2020, to Feb. 21, 2026. An investigation is pending.

  • A 21-year-old Bloomingdale woman was arrested about 3 a.m. Saturday at Route 83 and North Avenue on charges of DUI, possession of a stun gun without a firearm owner's identification card, possession of open alcohol by a driver and failure to signal when required.

Domestic battery

  • A 46-year-old Elmhurst woman who lives in the 600 block of South York Street was arrested about 11 p.m. Sunday on two counts of domestic battery. The incident occurred at her house. She was taken to the DuPage County Jail.

Retail theft

  • A 39-year-old woman and a 40-year-old man, both of Chicago, were arrested Saturday on retail theft charges. Police said the incident occurred about 7 p.m. March 18 at Kohl's, 303 S. Route 83. They were released.
  • A 42-year-old Broadview man was arrested about 4:30 a.m. Thursday on a retail theft charge. Police said they were called about a man who refused to leave the BP gas station, 217 E. Butterfield Road. He was then found to have stolen merchandise and left, police said. The man was released.
  • A person stole cosmetics about 12:30 p.m. Friday at Walgreens, 160 N. Robert Palmer Drive. An investigation is pending.
  • A person stole merchandise about 11:30 a.m. Thursday from Kohl's, 303 S. Route 83. An investigation is pending.

DUI

  • A 22-year-old Elmhurst man who lives in the 600 block of Willow Avenue was arrested about 1:30 a.m. Sunday at Lake Street and Interstate 290 on charges of DUI, use of unsafe tires, improper lane usage and driving an uninsured car. He was taken to the police station and then released.

Battery

  • Police were called about 9 p.m. Sunday to the 100 block of North Addison Avenue about a battery that had just occurred. One suspect was found, while the other two left. An investigation is pending.
