Elmhurst's Plunkett Park Playground Project Begins
Plunkett Park will receive new playground equipment with a tree house theme.

ELMHURST, IL — Redevelopment has begun on Plunkett Park playground. According to the Elmhurst Park District website, the playground will receive new structures and play surfacing this fall. The old playground structures were removed Aug. 16 by Kids Around the World, a nonprofit that repurposes playgrounds and rebuilds them in developing countries.
According to the park district's website, Elmhurst Park District has worked with them previously to repurpose playground equipment from several parks, including most recently at Butterfield Park.
Plans for the redevelopment of Plunkett Park playground were approved at the March 13 Park Board Meeting, according to the website. The new playground will have a tree house theme with equipment that includes elements inspired by nature and outdoor adventure. The playground will also get shade trees, more picnic tables and park benches. The plan also calls for improving drainage and replacing the playground’s wood chips with a low maintenance synthetic turf. The project should be completed by October, according to the park district.
