Elmhurst's Virus Caseload Falling: County

ELMHURST, IL — Elmhurst saw the lowest number of new coronavirus cases in a week since late July, according to the DuPage County Health Department.

As of Sunday, the city had seen 5,098 cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up 32 from a week before. The week before last, Elmhurst experienced an increase of 43 new cases.

The number of coronavirus-related deaths in Elmhurst stayed the same in the last week, at 70. The mortality rate among those locally with the coronavirus is 1.4 percent.

As of Sunday, Elmhurst had 109 coronavirus cases per thousand people since the pandemic's beginning. The figure compares to 93 in Darien, 102 in La Grange Park, 106 in Hinsdale and DuPage County, 114 in Clarendon Hills, 115 in Western Springs, 116 in suburban Cook County, 118 in Burr Ridge and 135 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands).

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,665,777, according to the state Department of Public Health. The number of confirmed deaths so far is 25,407.

Nationally, 44.8 million cases of the coronavirus have been reported, according to the Centers for Disease Control. A total of 722,212 people have died from the virus in the United States.
