Elmhurst's Virus Rate Dropping: County

ELMHURST, IL — Elmhurst's weekly increase in new coronavirus cases was the smallest since early August, according to the DuPage County Public Health Department.

As of Sunday, the city had seen 4,904 cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up 53 from a week before. The week before last, Elmhurst experienced an increase of 56 new cases. The numbers remain high compared to most of the summer.

As of Sunday, the number of coronavirus-related deaths in Elmhurst stayed the same in the last week, at 70. The mortality rate among those locally with the coronavirus is 1.5 percent.

As of Sunday, Elmhurst had 105 coronavirus cases per thousand people since the pandemic's beginning. The figure compares to 90 in Darien, 97 in La Grange Park, 101 in DuPage County, 102 in Hinsdale, 110 in Clarendon Hills, 111 in Western Springs, 112 in suburban Cook County, 114 in Burr Ridge and 131 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands).

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,590,342, up 1.7 percent from a week earlier, according to the state Department of Public Health. The number of confirmed deaths so far is 24,546.

Nationally, 41.9 million cases of the coronavirus have been reported, up 2.5 percent from the week before, according to the Centers for Disease Control. A total of 670,565 people have died from the virus in the United States.
