Evening Food Distribution In Elmhurst Proposed
The local pantry said it has seen a growing need for its services this year.

ELMHURST, IL – The Elmhurst-Yorkfield Food Pantry proposes to distribute food from its building on Lake Street during evenings.
The group is seeking a permit from the city for its property at 501 W. Lake St. A City Council committee plans to discuss the issue on Tuesday.
The pantry wants to distribute the food two to four evenings a week, on holidays such as Thanksgiving and Christmas, and potentially on a weekend day, according to its application.

This is part of the organization's plan to start an online ordering program.
So far this year, the pantry said it has seen a growing need for its services. It said it has distributed nearly 20 percent more food this year than in 2023. The hope is to increase that by 10 percent with the new program.

"Providing healthy food and addressing food insecurity contributes positively to public health," the application said.
The Development, Planning and Zoning Committee is set to address the proposal at its meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall.
