He liked country music concerts, the White Sox and the Grateful Dead.

ELMHURST, IL – A former Elmhurst police officer who graduated from York High School died last week.

Christopher Blasky, 50, a 1992 York graduate, was an Elmhurst officer for a decade. He later became an officer for the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District and a part-time Grayslake officer, according to his obituary.

A GoFundMe fundraiser is being held to support his wife, Kristi, and their three children, Madison, Reagan and Nixon.

“He lit up a room with his jokes, smile and witty sarcasm,” the fundraiser said. “He loved visiting their youngest daughter at college, he looked forward to the many country music concerts he and his wife attended, and was huge into the Sox and an enormous Iowa girls basketball fan. He enjoyed traveling to see The Grateful Dead with his lifelong childhood friends.”

Blasky held a special place in his heart for his labradors, Cassie and Kimber.

According to the fundraising page, losing a loved one is always difficult, but a sudden loss adds a different element to grieving.

"It doesn’t follow a pattern and there’s often a lack of closure," the fundraiser said. "There are also added financial stressors, such as the cost of planning a funeral or the loss of a spouse’s income to pay for household expenses."
