Famous Singer Scam Targets Elmhurst Resident: Cops

In another case, a person entered a church after being barred, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving a famous singer scam, obstruction of officers, a chronic nuisance, disorderly conduct, damage, trespassing and theft. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Famous singer scam

  • Police learned Thursday that a resident was communicating with someone she believed was a famous singer. The purported singer asked the resident to buy a $500 Apple gift card as a requirement for meeting him. The resident was taken to Elmhurst Hospital for an evaluation.

  • A person entered Greek Orthodox Church of St. Demetrios, 893 N. Church Road, about 9:30 a.m. Friday after being told by staff not to enter. The person was given a no-trespass notice.
  • A person declined to present a membership card, became hostile and left about 8:30 a.m. Friday at Courts Plus, 186 S. West Ave., the local park district's gym. The person received a no-trespass notice.
  • A person was making customers uncomfortable about 4 p.m. Friday at Starbucks, 164 N. York St. The person was given a no-trespass notice.

Obstructing

  • An officer witnessed the driver of a GMC Sierra pickup truck run a red light about 1 a.m. Thursday. The officer tried to stop the driver, but the driver pulled into a garage in the 200 block of North Larch Avenue and immediately closed the door. An investigation is pending.

  • Police on Thursday investigated a household in the 200 block of East Forest Avenue as a chronic nuisance.

Disorderly conduct

  • Disorderly conduct is being investigated at McMaster-Carr, 600 N. County Line Road. The conduct occurred between March 23 and April 17.

Drunk

  • A person was drunk and unable to walk about 12:30 a.m. Friday at the train station, 128 W. First St. The person was taken to Elmhurst Hospital.

Damage

  • A woman told police Friday that her car was damaged Thursday at Larry Roesch Chrysler, 200 W. Grand Ave. She left it at the dealership, where it was towed to a repair shop in Chicago.

Domestic disturbance

  • Police responded to a domestic disturbance about 7 p.m. Friday in the 200 block of North Addison Avenue. Police said someone threw objects at a man during an argument. The person who called the police wanted the incident documented.

Retail theft

  • A person stole two boxes of merchandise about 6:30 p.m. Friday at Kohl's, 303 S. Route 83. An investigation is pending.

Theft

  • A person in the 200 block of West First Street told police Friday that she accidentally sent the wrong person money on Zelle. The person contacted the recipient and requested the money back. The recipient denied getting the money. An investigation is pending.
