Five ICGS Teams Compete at Regional Destination Imagination Tournament

Immaculate Conception Grade School in Elmhurst had great success on March 5th in the Regional DI Tourny in Glen Ellyn.

On Saturday, March 5th, five teams from Immaculate Conception Grade School in Elmhurst competed at the Destination Imagination Regional Tournament at Hadley Junior High in Glen Ellyn. The Destination Imagination program is a fun, hands-on system of learning that fosters students’ creativity, courage and curiosity through open-ended academic Challenges in the fields of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), fine arts and service learning. The ICGS teams, sponsored by the ICGS Parents’ Club, are comprised of students in third through eighth grade. Each team is managed by several parent and even grandparent volunteers.

The following are the ICGS results:

The 7th grade team, known as, “The Color of Boom,” competed in the DI Technical Challenge category and achieved 1st place. This team has advanced and will compete at the state tourny in April.

The 6th grade team, known as, “Carmelazerz 2.0,” competed in the DI Improv Challenge category and achieved 3rd place. This team has also qualified to compete at the state tournament.

The 5th grade team, known as, “DI Bling,” competed in the DI Fine Arts Challenge category and achieved 2nd place. This team will also move on to compete at the state level.

The first of (2) 4th grade teams, known as, “The Diary of a Creative Kid,” competed in the DI Technical Challenge category and achieved 3rd place. This team has advanced and will compete at the state level in April. The second ICGS 4th grade team, known as, “DIappearing Act,” competed in the DI Scientific Challenge category and achieved 4th place, just missing the opportunity to advance.

The Destination Imagination State Tournament will be held at Northern Illinois University on April 16th.
