Gift Card Fraudster Flees Elmhurst Restaurant: Police
In another case, a man saw a person loitering around his car at a local park, police said. The man's tire was slashed.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving gift card fraud, a tire slashing, a hole in a fence, threats, a short-term rental violation and soliciting without a permit. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:
Gift card fraudster
- Police were called to Portillo's restaurant, 155 S. Route 83, about a woman buying gift cards manually entering a credit card number. Later, purchases were declined, and the woman fled. An investigation is pending.

- A man told police that he was at Ben Allison Park in the 400 block of South West Avenue when he saw a man loitering around his car about 11 a.m. May 3. He then found his rear passenger tire to be flat, with two puncture marks. The victim reported the crime a week later. An investigation is pending.
Hole in fence
- A resident in the 500 block of North Walnut Street told police Tuesday about a hole in her fence. She believed someone damaged it.

- A man at Super Ego Holding, 677 N. Larch Ave., told police that people have made threats to him through phone calls and text messages. An investigation is pending.
Short-term rental violation
- A 39-year-old Northlake man was cited about 3 p.m. Monday on a charge of having a short-term rental without a city license in the 500 block of North West Avenue. Last year, the city enacted rules for short-term rentals such as Airbnbs.
Soliciting without a permit
- A 19-year-old Elmhurst man who lives in the 900 block of West Hillside Drive was cited on a charge of soliciting without a permit. He was soliciting door-to-door in the 700 block of South Fairfield Avenue.
