More than 200 golfers, supporters, and sponsors hit the links at Arrowhead Golf Club in Wheaton and celebrated on a beautiful Tuesday in June, raising $100,000 for children with hearing loss.

This annual outing has now generated over $1 million over 14 years to benefit children with hearing loss as they learn to listen and to speak. Programs at Child’s Voice support children from just a few weeks old through 8 years of age, who reside across the greater metropolitan Chicago area.

“We extend a heartfelt thanks to all who helped make this a spectacular event,” said Mike and Katie Schroeder, event chairs and parents of two Child’s Voice students. “And we invite everyone to put June 9, 2020 on their calendars and join us next year.”

The golf outing included “Challenge a Child’s Voice Alumni,” where golfers and former students faced off on at a tee and on the putting green. Current students of Child’s Voice and their parents also hosted a lemonade stand on the course. Golf was followed by a helicopter ball drop, cocktail reception, dinner, raffle, live auction, and alumni speakers. This year’s alumni that were selected to welcome our guests were Mark Bianco, Class of 2009, Callan Fahey, Class of 2012, and Liam Powell, Class of 2016.

Child’s Voice

Child’s Voice helps children with hearing loss learn to listen and to speak. Students wear hearing aids and/or cochlear implants and programs use a child-focused, research-based curriculum, all with the end goal of transitioning graduates back to their neighborhood schools. The Child’s Voice program also includes early intervention services and audiology testing and support. At its two locations in Wood Dale and the Roscoe Village neighborhood in Chicago, Child’s Voice serves nearly 400 children and their families each year.
