Gullible Thief Tries to Sell Stolen Items Back to Owner, Gets Arrested Instead

Elmhurst police arrested Keonte Jabar McKinney, 20, for felony theft.

When a woman’s bike, her iPhone and $14 cash were stolen May 18 from the 300 block of South Arlington Avenue in Elmhurst, she called her phone to see how she could get her things back.

Keonte Jabar McKinney, age 20 of the 100 block of South 19th Avenue, Bellwood, answered the stolen phone, according to Elmhurst police.

The two made a deal that the woman would pay McKinney $200 for the return of her belongings. Then she called the police.

When McKinney showed up at the agreed upon location for the swap, he was met by police officers. He was arrested and charged with felony theft, police reported. He was taken to DuPage County Jail.
