Harassment Arrest, Liquor Theft: Elmhurst Police

An Elmhurst man is accused of harassing a woman for weeks, police say.

ELMHURST, IL — In the last few days, Elmhurst police have handled cases involving harassment, a liquor theft, check fraud, a scam, private information in a trash bin and driving violations. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Harassment

  • Zachery R. Murphy, 22, of Elmhurst, was arrested on a charge of harassment through electronic communications. He was released on bond. The incidents happened from Dec. 17 to Jan. 4, according to police. The victim said Murphy contacted her numerous times after an officer previously instructed him to have no further contact with her, police said.
  • A woman in the 800 block of South Fairfield Avenue told police Tuesday that a person had sent her numerous text messages and emails after she filed an order of protection. An officer contacted the suspect, who agreed to have no further contact with the woman.
  • A woman alleged her ex-boyfriend violated an order of protection about 3 p.m. Wednesday in the parking lot at Cilantro Taco Grill, 677 N. York St., when he walked near her. It was determined that the order of protection had not been served at the time.

Liquor theft

  • A man entered CVS Pharmacy, 110 W. North Ave., and walked directly to the liquor aisle about 4 p.m. Monday. An employee then noticed one side of the man's jacket was hanging lower than the other and heard bottles clanking as he left the store. The suspect entered a red, older model sedan and was last seen headed east on North Avenue. He was described as white, 40 to 50 years old, 5 feet, 6 inches, having a medium build, and wearing a blue and gray jacket and jeans.

Check fraud

  • Stasica Construction, 465 S. Spring Road, told police Wednesday that a check was intercepted in the mail and fraudulently deposited in a suspect's bank account. An investigation is pending.

Scam

  • A resident in the 400 block of South Prairie Avenue told police Wednesday that he wired money to unknown suspects in Texas and Ghana. After the transactions were completed, the victim received a fraud alert from his bank.

Private information

  • Police received a report of multiple credit card statements found in a trash bin Monday at Eldridge Park. The officer contacted the addressee, who said her family member was instructed to dispose of the documents at a shredding facility. The documents were collected and returned to the victim.

Driving violations

  • Dylan M. Valdez, 23, of Elmhurst, was cited about 2:30 p.m. Monday at Gladys and Van Auken on charges of possession of marijuana by a driver, avoiding a traffic control device and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. He was released on bond. In the same incident, Marc Sylvie, 25, of Addison, was cited on a charge of possession of marijuana by a passenger.
  • Theodore Guice, 31, of Chicago, was cited about 11:30 p.m. Monday at York and Industrial on charges of driving with a suspended license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, no valid registration and driving without headlights. He was released on bond. In the same incident, Tyashana Williams, 23, of Chicago, was cited on a charge of no valid driver's license and illegal transportation of alcohol.
  • Joshua Coffey, 28, of Chicago, was cited about 11 a.m. Tuesday at York and Crestview on charges of possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle and speeding. He was released on bond.
  • Adrian Garcia, 20, of Northlake, was cited at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 100 block of North Robert Palmer on charges of driving with a suspended license and disobeying a traffic control device. He was released on bond.
  • Gabriela Montes, 31, of Maywood, was cited about 12:30 a.m. Thursday at York and Second on charges of no valid driver's license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and improper lighting. She was released on bond.
  • Melissa Gonzales, 32, of Berwyn, was cited about 2:30 a.m. Thursday at Route 83 and Riverside on charges of driving with a suspended license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and no rear plate light. She was released on bond.
