Heavy Rain Causes Flooding In Elmhurst

Elmhurst was one of the hardest hit communities in Wednesday's rain event.

ELMHURST, IL — Wednesday's heavy rain, which was the remnants of subtropical storm Alberto, caused flooding in Elmhurst. According to the NWS, the atmospheric moisture was high which set the stage for period of heavy rain and isolated totals of 2.5 inches of rain especially over DuPage County.

Elmhurst was one of the heaviest hit communities with rainfall and some flooding, as well as Addison and Villa Park. Rainfall totals were recorded for Elmhurst, but nearby Villa Park received 2.55 inches of rain, according to the NWS.

An underpass was flooded in downtown Elmhurst, as well as some flooding in the intersection of Mitchell and Adams. Wednesday's rain also pushed the rain totals for the month up to 8.21 inches, making it the wettest May on record for Chicago, according to the NWS.
