Here's The Latest On York High's Prom And Graduation

Both rites of passage are in the works, although the pandemic presents challenges.

ELMHURST, IL — York High School is planning to hold its prom outdoors on May 15, with the next day being a rain date. Graduation is also in the works.

"Both are in the planning stages," Beverly Redmond, District 205's spokeswoman, said in an email to Patch.

As for graduation, the school said in a statement Friday, "The Commencement Ceremony will be a limited capacity event. We will be following all CDC and IDPH guidelines for gatherings when determining our capacity for the event. We have not determined how many guests will be invited per graduate, but please do not plan to have extended family attend at this time."

Because of the pandemic, prom was canceled last year and graduation was held as a drive-up event. That was the case with most high schools.

Officials say the target day for four-day-a-week, in-person learning at York is March 15. Divided into two groups, students are now attending in person twice a week.
