Home Repair Dispute, Dog Issue: Elmhurst Police
Residents says a contractor took his money, but did not complete the work, report says.
ELMHURST, IL — A home repair dispute, a scratching dog and theft were among the Elmhurst Police Department's recent calls. Here is information from the police department's latest reports:
- A resident in the 700 block of South Stuart Court reported June 17 that he paid a person to replace windows and a garage door. The garage door was successfully replaced, but the contractor never replaced the windows. The contracting company said it would refund the remaining amount, but the resident never received the money. An investigation continues.
- A dog jumped on a person causing a small scratch on his back about 10 a.m. June 17 near South York and Vallette. The dog's owner was issued a citation for the dog having an expired rabies vaccine. The report was forwarded to DuPage County Animal Control.
- Archie Tan, 35, of Westmont, was arrested about 11 p.m. June 16 at West and North on a DuPage County arrest warrant and on charges of driving with a suspended license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and failure to yield turning left. He was released on bond.
- Tara L. Verdak, 34, of Elmhurst, was cited at 4 p.m. June 16 on charges of driving with a suspended license and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. She was released on bond.
- A Spectra Precision pipe laser was stolen about 8:30 a.m. June 15 at Fellows and St. Charles. The suspect entered a black Pontiac sedan with an unknown temporary license plate and headed west on St. Charles Road. He was followed by a silver Ford Fusion. The suspect was described as black, 25 to 30 years old, having a dreadlocks hairstyle and wearing a burgundy hooded sweatshirt and light (possibly acid-washed) pants.
- The store manager at BP gas station, 1003 N. York St., reported that a customer concealed a can of Red Bull under his jacket and left the store without paying for it about 3 p.m. June 15. The manager was able to get a license plate number from the suspect's car. Officers went to the suspect's address and found the suspect and the stolen merchandise. The suspect was served with a no-trespass notice. The victim did not wish to sign a criminal complaint.
- A police officer spoke to the owner of a car June 15 in the west alley in the 100 block of North Larch. The owner said the car was disabled, and he was working on removing it. A little while later, the officer found the car abandoned in the same place.
- A suspicious person was seen about 12:30 a.m. June 16 in a yard near North End and Van Auken. Police found the person, who said he snuck out of his house to go on a walk. The suspect was cited for violation of curfew and was released to his parent.
- Hertz Rental Car, 856 N. York, told police June 16 that several cars rented through Hertz's partnership with Lyft have not been returned. The latest car may have been returned to a different Hertz location. The cars have been going missing since March 19. An investigation continues.
- A resident reported graffiti on a pumping station June 16 at Eldridge Park, 363 Commonwealth Lane. The graffiti appeared to be several years old and faded. The city's public works department was informed.
Police report information is provided by local police departments. Charges are not evidence of guilt. They are a record of police actions on a given day, and persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
