Death Investigation Confirmed On I-290: Medical Examiner

WESTCHESTER, IL – The Cook County Medical Examiner confirmed a death Thursday morning on Interstate 290.

The person, identified only as male, died on westbound I-290 west of 25th Avenue, according to the medical examiner.

A police bomb squad was reportedly on the scene, according to ABC Chicago.

I-290 in the western suburbs has been backed up in both directions for hours because of a bomb squad investigating an "active incident," NBC 5 Chicago reported.

NBC 5 said the incident started shortly after 10 a.m. in Westchester near Mannheim Road and reported that state police could be heard referring to an explosion.
