IC Catholic Prep Inducts 2002 State Champion Football Team Into Athletic Hall of Fame
ICCP is proud to announce that the 2002 IHSA State Champion Football Team was inducted into the ICCP Athletic Hall of Fame.

IC Catholic Prep (ICCP) is proud to announce that on Friday, October 23rd, the 2002 IHSA State Champion Football Team was inducted into the ICCP Athletic Hall of Fame. Twenty two of the players and coaches were on hand as the team was honored during a halftime ceremony of the Knights Varsity Football game at the Plunkett Athletic Complex. The newest inductees, along with their families, also enjoyed a post-game Athletic Hall of Fame reception after the game.
Congratulations to the 2002 IHSA State Championship Football team including Dan Clancy, Joe Mastrino (Co-Captain), Dan Hauert, Charlie Grobe, Marc Recio, Anthony Schreiber (Co-Captain), Tom Muisinga, Kevin Mulligan, Brian Mulligan, Marc Folisi, Nick Naborowski, Brian Kowieski (Co-Captain), Chris Larem, Jack Campbell, Tim Mastrino, Gabe Murphy, Jim Clancy, Brad Paus, Patrick Gibbons, Ryan Zerante, Wally Williams, Zach Paus, Roger Kelley, PJ Conroy, Matt Lahey, Bill Bianchi, Bill Krefft(Co-Captain), Seamus Costello, David Suarez, John Cervone, Matt Kowieski, Victor Corral, Matt Jazweic, Ian Graham, Kevin Ronn, Kevin Park, Larry Zerante, Sam Remy, Pat Grobe, the late Bob Cozzi (Head Coach), Bill Schmidt (Asst. Coach), Mike Alberts (Asst. Coach), Kevin Garner (Asst. Coach), Jason Krausfeldt (Asst. Coach), Tom Ragauskis (Asst. Coach), Aaron Thomas (Asst. Coach), and Grant Varveris (Asst. Coach).
The Knights finished the 2002 season with an overall record of 13-1, going 8-1 in the Suburban Catholic Conference. The Knights defeated Walther Lutheran 45-0 at home in the first round of playoffs, defeated Stillman Valley 35-14 next, then rolled over Lena-Winslow 27-8 on the road in the Quarterfinals, before earning a chance at the State Title by beating Wilmington on the road by a score of 26-15. The starting defense held opponents scoreless for the first three rounds of playoffs. In the 14 game season, the Knights offense put up 458 points while the defense held opponents to just 162.

Once in Champaign for the State Championship game, the Knights found themselves trailing by 14 in the first quarter to a strong DuQuoin team. The Knights rallied to score 21 unanswered points to win the first-ever state football title in IC history.
