IC Catholic Prep Unveils Newly Renovated Main Floor With Special Blessing

ICCP students, faculty, administration, parents, and friends gathered to celebrate Mass and the blessing of the newly renovated main floor.

On Wednesday, August 16, 2017, IC Catholic Prep (ICCP) students, faculty, administration, parents, and friends gathered to celebrate Mass as a school community to mark the beginning of a new school year. It also provided the perfect opportunity to unveil and bless the newly renovated main floor of the high school. ICCP was honored to have Most Reverend Joseph Siegel, Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Joliet, lead the Mass and blessing, along with Immaculate Conception Pastor, Very Rev. Thomas Paul, and Associate Pastor Rev. Chris Lankford.

At the conclusion of the all school Mass, Bishop Siegel, Very Rev. Thomas Paul, and Rev. Chris Lankford lead the students and faculty on a procession from the Immaculate Conception Church to the front steps of the high school. They were joined by members of the ICCP Administration, including Principal, Pamela Levar and President, Tom Schergen. After the blessing was completed at the school’s front entrance, the procession continued through the main floor of the school where all of the classrooms and newly hung crucifixes received blessings as well.

The upgrades to the main floor were made possible through a generous donation from the estate of IC alumnus, Gerald Nelson, from the class of 1950. Construction began in late May and was completed just days before the first day of school on August 14th.

The main floor renovation project included the installation of new carpet in the hallway and LVT plank flooring in the classrooms, main office and faculty workroom. All classroom chalkboards were replaced with whiteboard walls and student work display areas. All student and teacher workspaces in each classroom were furnished with new desks, chairs and storage cabinets. In addition, the walls, lockers, classroom doors and select wall tiles were painted to reflect school colors. The original woodwork on entry doors and classroom cabinetry were stained, and the associated hardware was refinished. Custom sun blocking roller shades were installed in the classrooms, along with upgrades to all of the lighting to energy efficient LED in main office, hallway, teacher’s workroom, and classrooms. Lastly, a new Public Address (PA) system was installed throughout the entire school building, and new access points to improve the technology infrastructure.
