ICCP Math Team Finishes 6th Place Overall at ICTM State Finals

The IC Catholic Prep (ICCP) Math Team tied their highest finish in school history by earning 6th place at the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics (ICTM) State Finals on Saturday, May 5, 2018. Thirty-six members of the IC Catholic Prep Math Team competed in the 1A Division at the ICTM State Competition at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, scoring a team total of 402 points and returning to Elmhurst with numerous individual and team awards.

Individual award winners included sophomore Carl Zhou who earned 3rd place and sophomore Kevin Cooke who earned 4th place in the Geometry Written event, senior Mark Zhao finished 4th in the Pre-Calculus Written event, and junior Steven Gong earned a 12th place award in the Algebra 2 Written event.

In team competition, ICCP had nine top ten finishers. The Geometry Team comprised of six sophomores including Katarina Vorne, Rachel Simonides, Carl Zhou, Kevin Cooke, Jack Ryan, and Max Cook earned 2nd place. The Junior-Senior 8-person Team which included juniors Harry Zhang, Amber Lewis, Joe Sloan, Emmett Platt; and seniors Jack Fowler, Dylan Packer, Jake DeWitte, Mark Zhao also placed 2nd.

Four teams earned 4th place honors. These teams included the Pre-Calculus Team of junior Harry Zhang, and seniors Mark Zhao, Victor Cadaoas, Quinn Bigane, Alec Vasquez, and Josh De La Cruz; the Calculator Team of freshmen Bill Liu, sophomore Rachel Simonides, juniors Steven Gong and Robbie Calles, and senior Victor Cadaoas; the Freshman-Sophomore Relay (Team 1) of freshmen Grace Grady and Danny Roberto, and sophomores Annie Guinan and Tommy Sloan; and the Junior-Senior Relay (Team 1) of juniors Natalie Murillo and Kelly Murray, and seniors Quinn Bigane and Mark Zhao.

Rounding out the top ten finishes are the Junior-Senior Relay (Team 2) which included juniors Ryan Kenneally and Lance Pollitz, and seniors Josh De La Cruz and Alec Vasquez who finished in 8th place. The Freshman-Sophomore 2-person Team of sophomores Kevin Cooke and Jack Ryan finished in 9th place. Finally, the Algebra 2 Team of juniors Steven Gong, Kelly Murray, Natalie Murillo, Ryan Kenneally, Lance Pollitz, and Suzy Maloney earned a 10th place finish.

A final notable finish included the Algebra 1 Team of freshmen Danny Roberto, Kristen Brachmann, Frankie Chaidez, Bella Roelle, Bill Liu, Grace Grady who finished in 13th place. The Math Team is led my ICCP Math teachers Mrs. Diane Martin, Mrs. Michelle Ferguson and Mrs. Missy Idasek.
