ICCP Raises Record Amount at Annual Knight of Jewels Gala

On Saturday, April 7th, IC Catholic Prep hosted their 48th Annual Knight of Jewels Gala where they raised a record $265,000.

On Saturday, April 7th, IC Catholic Prep (ICCP) hosted their 48th Annual Knight of Jewels Gala with the theme of “Make A Difference ToKnight”. The highlight of this year’s sold out event was the honoring of ICCP Principal Pamela Levar’s 40 years as a teacher, coach and leader of the school. The Hyatt Lodge in Oak Brook once again provided the perfect venue for guests to enjoy an elegant evening of fun and fundraising.

This year's event was chaired by Mike and Jeannie Curtin, Doug and Eileen Johnson, and Rob ‘86 and Sheryl Sloan. Through their efforts and the generosity of so many in the ICCP community, $265,000 was raised for ICCP! The amount does not include the matching gift received from a generous anonymous donor. Thank you to all who made this hugely successful evening possible including the event chairs, volunteers, sponsors, underwriters, advertisers, donors, and attendees.

This evening began with a cocktail hour featuring music performed by Emilio Ortega ‘20 on the guitar and Dan McCann ’18, Tim McCann ’18, Tommy Sloan ’20, and Leo Yang ‘19 on the piano. Immaculate Conception Parish Pastor, Very Rev. Thomas Paul led the guests in prayer before dinner was served. The rest of the program was filled with touching videos, inspirational speeches, fun surprises and memorable moments.

ICCP senior, Joshua DeLaCruz, who will be attending Dartmouth on a four-year, full scholarship beginning next Fall, started the program off by delivering a moving speech about his experiences as an ICCP Knight. The excitement built as the winner of the “Best of Live” Golden Ticket Raffle was drawn, sending one lucky participant home with a dream vacation to Costa Rica. ICCP President, Tom Schergen, expressed some words of gratitude before sharing a video tribute created for Pam Levar for her 40 years of service to Catholic education. The video, created by IC alum Joe Mastrino ’09, featured messages and fond memories from current and former teachers, students, players and friends, as well as her family.

As the crowd took to their feet for a standing ovation, the doors of the ballroom opened and close to 100 ICCP students filled the already packed ballroom to show their Principal how much she is loved and appreciated. Schergen topped this special moment by presenting Levar with a variety of gifts and mementos to mark the milestone anniversary.

Once the presentation portion of the event concluded, it was time for the Paddle Raise and Live Auction! It was a spirited crowd, with friendly bidding wars over the six fabulous packages up for auction. Guests then had the opportunity to cut loose a bit, as the dance floor opened and the DJ entertained the crowd.

The Knight of Jewels Gala is ICCP’s largest fundraiser of the year. The funds raised at this event help to transform the lives of current and future ICCP students. Funds enhance academic programs to develop students’ Spirit, Mind, and Body; student organizations to foster creativity, leadership, and team-building; professional development for the dedicated faculty and staff; and classroom technology to stay current in today’s ever-changing tech world.

Donations are still welcome and can be made by going to the website at or contacting ICCP President, Tom Schergen, at (630) 530-3485 or tschergen@iccatholicprep.org.
