On Wednesday, February 22nd, Immaculate Conception Grade School (Elmhurst) sixth grade students had the opportunity to tour Mar Thoma Shleeha Syro-Malabar Catholic Cathedral in Bellwood. The field trip, arranged by IC Pastor, Father Tom Paul, also included a Mass, celebrated by the Associate Bishop. This cathedral of the Eastern-rite Catholic Syro-Malabarian denomination is the first ecclesiastical seat outside India. Like Maronite, Byzantine and Romanian Catholic churches, the Syro-Malabarians are in union with Rome but hold to distinct worship, language, canon law and hierarchy.
