ICGS Students Prepare for Ash Wednesday

On Monday, February 12th, older students at ICGS gathered for the burning of palms in anticipation of Ash Wednesday.

On the afternoon of Monday, February 12th, older students at Immaculate Conception Grade School in Elmhurst gathered in the IC parking lot for the burning of palms. The ashes from these palms (distributed on Palm Sunday last year) will be used on Ash Wednesday, February 14th, when parishioners at Immaculate Conception Parish begin their observance of Lent by having their foreheads marked with ashes. The Lenten season is one of prayer, fasting, almsgiving, and repentance. During Lent, ICGS students will be making small sacrifices to try and raise funds for St. Mary's Mission School in Red Lake, Minnesota. The school is located on a closed Native American reservation of the Ojibwe tribe and its church burned to the ground late last year.
