The sixth-grade team, known as the Kings of Black Roses, won first place in the middle school level in the challenge category, Mythology Mission.  This challenge involved creating a five minute improvisational skit about a mythological creature.   The skit was created with only five minutes of preparation time, and team members had to incorporate elements of a particular culture they had researched.  In addition, they had to incorporate three souvenirs randomly selected from a list of items. The team was evaluated in the areas of research and understanding of cultures, mythology, improvisational acting, story development, theater artsand teamwork.

The Professional Amateurs, ICGS’ fifth-grade team, placed first at the elementary level in the technical challenge, Unidentified Moving Object.  The group had to design and build equipment to move various materials using items in a storage box.  They then had to create and present a sales promotion highlighting the features of the equipment and could not use any electrical power in the design.  The team was tested in the areas of design, construction, innovation, mathematics, modularization, experimentation, theater arts and teamwork.
