Illegal Fireworks, Bat Bite: Elmhurst Cops
Elmhurst man cited after police officer hears fireworks, report says.
ELMHURST, IL — In recent days, Elmhurst police responded to a bat bite, a repeat trespasser, a suspect with a gun and illegal fireworks, among other things. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police blotter:
Disputes
- A suspect got into an argument and threw things in the parking lot June 3 at Elmhurst Animal Care, 850 Riverside Drive. He was asked not to return to the business. The next day, he returned to discuss the death of his dog. Officers responded and served him with a no-trepass notice.
- Officers responded to a report of a suspect holding a gun about 2 a.m. June 5 at Extended Stay America hotel, 550 W. Grand Ave. The caller said a suspect was outside her hotel room holding a knife. The suspect said he was trying to buy marijuana from the victim and that the victim tried to rob him. Neither party wanted to file charges. Due to conflicting accounts of the incident, no arrests were made.

- A resident in the 200 block of Michigan Avenue found a bat in her house and believes she may have been bitten about 9 a.m. June 5. The bat was captured and taken to DuPage County Animal Control. The victim was advised to contact her doctor.
- A bicyclist was injured after falling off his bike about 5 p.m. June 5 at Ridgeland and Third. Upon arrival, the officer noted the victim suffered deep cuts. Officers could not find any obstructions or debris in the roadway. Medics transported the victim to the hospital.
- A large cabinet that was not anchored to the wall fell on a victim who opened it about 9:30 p.m. June 4 at a business at 625 S. Route 83. The victim's hand was bleeding, and he had pain in his leg. He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital for treatment.
Theft
- A customer at Enterprise Car Rental, 896 N. York Road, told police he left his wallet at Enterprise June 5 and upon returning, it was no longer there. He canceled his credit cards before any fraudulent activity could take place.
- An employee at Elmhurst Hospital informed police June 3 that she lost or mislaid her engagement, wedding and anniversary rings. She believes she may have left them on the sink after washing her bands, but was not sure.
- A victim reported to police June 6 that a car was stolen. Through investigation, the suspect was contacted and it was discovered that she had not returned the car because it had been involved in a crash and was at a local tow yard. The car had been missing since April 25.

- While conducting an extra patrol about 10 a.m. June 6 at Mariano's grocery store, an officer saw a man running away from the store's loss prevention officer. The suspect recklessly drove through the parking lot and onto westbound Interstate 290, disregarding the officer's instructions to stop. The suspect stole four boxes of men's Rogaine and four boxes of Nexium. The suspect was described as 27, black and having a thin build.
- After viewing surveillance footage, an employee at Jewel, 153 E. Schiller St., informed police that about 9 p.m. June 6, a man entered the stockroom, loaded several cases of Hennessy and Patrol Silver Tequila into a shopping cart and left the store without paying for it. The man was described as black, in his mid- to late 20s, and wearing a navy and gray trucker-style baseball hat with a white logo, a black zip-up jacket with white stripes down the sleeves and a logo on the left chest, gray jogging pants, and light colored gym shoes with wide white shoelaces.
Other
- An officer went to the K.E. Meridian Salon, 183 E. Butterfield Road, at 4:30 p.m. June 4 about a report of shell casings. Upon arrival, the officer found two shell casings in an alcove near the dumpsters. No bullets or bullet holes were found. The shell casings were placed into evidence.
- MacKenzie Johnson, 38, of Oak Brook, was cited at noon June 4 at Butterfield and Prospect on charges of driving with a suspended license and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. She was released on bond.
- Melissa Trujillo, 23, of Bensenville, was cited about 2 a.m. June 6 in the 700 block of Industrial on a charge of injuring city property. She was released on bond.
- Arturo Jaime, 47, of Chicago, was cited at 9:30 p.m. June 6 at Marion and Kenmore on a charge of possession of open alcohol in public. He was released on bond. According to a police report, police received a call about an unconscious man in the bushes. Identified as Jaime, he was found to be in possession of a half empty bottle of vodka.
- Adam T. Hamdi-Pacha, 34, of Elmhurst, was cited about 6:30 p.m. June 5 on a charge of illegal fireworks. According to a police report, an officer responded to a noise that sounded like fireworks. A neighbor told the officer that Hamdi-Pacha was lighting fireworks and debris was falling on the neighbor's property. He was released.
