Quigley Wins Democratic Nomination For 5th Congressional District

Incumbent Mike Quigley has won the democratic nomination and will face off against Republican Tom Hanson.

Incumbent Mike Quigley has beat out three other candidates for the Democratic nomination. Quigley received 62,458 votes, while the closest candidate, Sameena Mustafa, received 23,606 votes. Quigley will face off against Republican nominee Tom Hanson in November.

The 5th Congressional District includes parts of Chicago, Rosemont, Elmhurst, Oak Brook, Franklin Park, Northlake, Bensenville and Hinsdale.

  • Mike Quigley - 61,458 votes
  • Benjamin Thomas Wolf - 9,308 votes
  • Sameena Mustafa - 23,606 votes
  • Steven Schwartzberg - 3,949 votes

Quigley currently serves as 5th District Representative, and was elected to the position in 2009. According to his website, Quigley is a resident of Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood. Quigley believes in requiring mandatory background checks on gun sales and limiting the sale of assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.

Wolf is a resident of Chicago and has worked for the FBI and the U.S. Department of State. According to his website, Wolf believes in equality for all people, university healthcare, free higher education and the immediate banning of all assault weapons. Wolf also believes in the legalization of cannabis and his dubbed himself the "Cannabis Candidate."

Mustafa is a resident of the North Center neighborhood in Chicago. She has managed a Planned Parenthood clinic, and currently works in real estate as a tenant advocate. According to her website, Mustafa believes healthcare is a right, pushing for campaign reform, and opposes bloated military budgets.

Schartzberg is a resident of Chicago and has previously served as a professor at several universities, including Yale and University of Nevada, Las Vegas. According to his website, Schartzberg believes in universal health care, massive infrastructure investment, affordable public college and raising the minimum wage to $15.
