Learn Not to Burn Poster Contest Winners Announced

Students then created posters and a home fire escape plan with their families.

Learn Not to Burn is a public education program presented to 4th graders by the Elmhurst Fire Department. During this five-week program, students learn such topics as:

  • Different types of fire
  • Identifying fire hazards
  • What to do in case of a fire

Students then create a home fire escape plan with their families utilizing EDITH (Exit Drill In The Home) and participate in a citywide poster contest. Winners of the 2015 contest are:

Grand Prize - Elizabeth Baldridge/Field School - $50 City Centre Gift Card
2nd Place - Joel Varghese/Field School - $30 City Centre Gift Card
3rd Place - Rachael Schrage/Lincoln School - $20 City Centre Gift Card

The grand prize winner’s poster is displayed at both fire stations, City Hall and on the City website. The Learn Not to Burn poster contest has been sponsored by the City of Elmhurst Fire Department since 1985, according to Fire Chief Jeff Bacidore.
