The store’s current owner, Bill Patterson, started working in the clothing business when he was high school, and Patterson bought Leonard’s in 1998, according to the release.

“It’s an old store and it’s been through many changes in its life. It’s closing is very sad but it’s a sign of the times,” Patterson said in the release. “Unfortunately, we seem to be living in much more of a mass-produced, mass-merchandised world.”

Patterson hasn’t yet decided what he’ll do next for his professional career.

“I grew up in this industry and I’d really hoped to continue to own and operate Leonard’s much longer but it’s just not realistic in today’s marketplace. I have some ideas of directions I may pursue but I’m not set one way or the other and I’m open to a number of avenues,” Patterson said in the release.
