ELMHURST, IL – The most recent numbers from the Elmhurst-based Dan Gibbons Turkey Trot Foundation show it gave more money to charities and less to the executive director.

The group's tax form for 2021 listed Executive Director Dan Gibbons' salary at $63,750. That was down from $84,000 a year before.

In 2021, the foundation distributed about $100,000 to area charities, more than the previous year's $30,000.

The total income also rose dramatically to nearly $700,000 in 2021, up from $412,000 the year before, according to the tax form.

According to the group, much of the money is spent on Wheaton-based Café Liberty, an offshoot of the foundation. Café Liberty helps unemployed and underemployed veterans enter the culinary field and provide catering services.
