Lightning Likely Sparked Elmhurst House Fire Monday

The cause of the house fire is still under investigation, but officials believe a lightning strike may have ignited the blaze.

Investigators believe a Monday morning house fire in the 900 block of South Saylor was likely caused by a lightening strike.

Elmhurst firefighters were called to the home at 12:33 a.m., and they found a fire in the attic space above the garage, according to a news release.

The fire was extinguished within 30 minutes, with the help of Elmhurst, York Center, Villa Park and Oak Brook Terrace personnel. No injuries were reported.

The fire caused $10,000 in structure damage, plus $1,000 in damage to the contents of the home. The damage was contained to the attic, and there was a small amount of water damage in the house.

The fire is still under investigation.
