Lincoln School Project In 'Good Spot'
Other projects may not be ready for the August opening of schools.

ELMHURST, IL — Not all of Elmhurst School District 205's summer construction projects are set to be done by the August opening of school.
But at this point, the project to replace Lincoln Elementary School appears to be on schedule for the first day of class.
The school's roof and walls were finished by winter, enabling crews to work inside during the cold weather.

"So that's why we've been in a good spot all winter," Assistant Superintendent Chris Whelton said at this week's finance committee meeting.
Starting this summer, the district plans to demolish Field Elementary School and replace it over the next year. It is following the same schedule as Lincoln.

Rob Martinelli, a finance committee member, warned about supply chain issues.
"It's tough getting materials. Everything is tough. Lumber is hard. Metal is hard," said Martinelli, who is in the construction industry. "Everything is painful right now. So brace yourself."
The district hopes to complete a six-classroom addition at Fischer Elementary School this summer.
If it's not ready for the beginning of school, then the principal will operate the school as before, said Todd Schmidt, the district's facilities director.
The district already is planning to work on new media centers at Jackson and Jefferson elementary schools through Sept. 15, weeks after students return, he said.
The Lincoln project includes two webcams, which can be accessed through the school district's website.
