Local resident is first to earn high school diploma through innovative program offered by Addison Public Library
Library offers accredited diplomas and career certificates to residents through Career Online High School

Addison, IL, — Irma Tena is the first Addison resident to earn her high school diploma through the Career Online High School program at Addison Public Library. The library partnered with Gale, a leading provider of library resources, in October 2016 to offer the innovative program in an effort to help the village’s adults who lack a high school diploma.
“I am very grateful for this opportunity and scholarship to obtain my high school diploma," says Tena. After not succeeding twice before this time, I had both a teacher and resource teachers willing to help me when I struggled. I believe anything is possible if you are willing to commit to the work and effort, you can achieve anything you envision for yourself.”
A limited number of free scholarships are available for qualified adult learners who are looking to advance their careers, prepare for workforce entry, or continue their education. If you are a resident of Addison, 21 or older, and can commit to hours each week to study and complete work this program may be for you! The first step is to visit www.addisonlibrary.org/diploma and take an online quiz to see if the program is right for you. Then, you will take a trial course that will lead to consideration for the scholarship.
