Local Retirement Community to Host Critically Acclaimed Film

Director Steven Loring brings "The Age of Love" to Park Place of Elmhurst on February 26

ELMHURST, IL – Does the need for intimacy — and our search for love — change as we age? Posing this question to audiences across America, The Age of Love — an eye-opening documentary on speed dating for those over 70 — has touched a cultural nerve. Park Place of Elmhurst, a retirement community located at 1150 Euclid Ave. in Elmhurst, is sponsoring two screenings of the film at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Friday, February 26.

The film follows the comic and poignant adventures of a group of Rochester, NY, seniors who take part in an unprecedented speed-dating event for 70-to-90-year-olds. Fearlessly candid about themselves and what they’re seeking, these seniors soon discover how the search for love changes — or doesn’t change — as you get older.

“Park Place is excited to screen such a relevant, remarkable film,” said Don Engelsman, executive director of Park Place of Elmhurst. “We tend to see romance as an experience of youth. In reality, that just isn’t the case. This film opens you up to an aspect of life that many don’t realize exists. Many assumptions will be swept away.”

Steven Loring, director, producer and editor of The Age of Love, notes that it’s important that there’s a growing conversation on a topic that was long considered taboo.

“As the world faces a brand-new ‘fourth generation’ of active, healthy adults, understanding and supporting their need for intimacy has become a hot topic,” said Loring. “We’re learning there’s nothing “cute” about love at 80. Love remains just as challenging and intense as when we were younger.”
