Major Elmhurst Street Without Sidewalk On 1 Side
Nearly $250,000 will be spent to make a sidewalk a reality, according to a city memo.

ELMHURST, IL – York Street's west side in Elmhurst is without a sidewalk from Lake Street to Crestview Avenue.
Officials are working to change that, but a planned project includes an expensive hurdle.
A year ago, the state Department of Transportation bid out the work for an 8-foot-wide sidewalk, but it was unable to award the project to either the first or second lowest bidders, according to a city memo this week.

The costly part is the substantial work to change the structure that holds up the Interstate 290 bridge to allow the sidewalk to be installed under it.
The work also includes lighting, fencing and trees, the city memo said.
The city is paying engineering firm Civiltech for the design work. At Monday's City Council meeting, aldermen plan to vote on authorizing a payment to the firm.
