Man Bites Detective in Elmhurst Investigation: Cops

Man files a false report about being shot during a gun purchase, police say.

ELMHURST, IL — A Downers Grove man who claimed to have been shot in Elmhurst during an illegal gun purchase ended up being arrested himself, Elmhurst police said this week.

Elmhurst detectives responded to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, where the man, identified as 27-year-old David T. Gibson, made the claim, police said.

Through investigation, police discovered Gibson had accidentally shot himself in the leg in Downers Grove, according to a police report. During questioning, Gibson bit an investigator in the arm, police said.

Gibson was arrested Monday on charges of aggravated battery to a police officer, filing a false police report and three counts of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.
