Man Leads Oak Brook Cops On Chase, Ingests Ecstasy: Police

The man continued for a time on the expressway after police spiked his tires, authorities said.

OAK BROOK, IL – A man clocked speeding in Oak Brook refused to stop and led officers on a chase until they spiked his tires, authorities said.

About 3 a.m. Saturday, Quinton Hicks, 38, of Chicago, was speeding 55 mph in a 35 mph zone near 22nd Street and Midwest Road, DuPage County prosecutors said in a news release.

After an officer activated his emergency lights and sirens, Hicks ignored a red light and increased his speed to 70 mph before another officer successfully spiked his tires at Spring Road and 31st Street, police said.

Police said Hicks continued to drive on flat tires. He entered Interstate 294, where he reached speeds of 80 mph until his car became disabled in Northlake, prosecutors said.

When he was arrested, he asked to be taken to the hospital because he said he ingested ecstasy, police said. Officers said they found an SCCY .380 handgun in Hicks' car.

Hicks faces felony charges of being an armed habitual criminal, unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, and aggravated fleeing and eluding an officer.

DuPage County Judge Timothy McJoynt granted prosecutors' request to keep Hicks in jail until his trial.
