Marathon Golf Event Seeking Warriors For The Fighting Hunger Games

The inaugural Fighting Hunger Games, a one-day 100-hole golf marathon for up to 36 participants, will take place rain or shine on June 19 at Maple Meadows Golf Course in Wood Dale, Illinois.

Each participant or “warrior” is expected to raise a minimum of $2,500 in pledges with proceeds going to the Dan Gibbons Turkey Trot Foundation.

“This is an opportunity to expand our community outreach beyond the Turkey Trot,” said Dan Gibbons, executive director. “We need to kick it up a notch as an organization and The Fighting Hunger Games is one of our new initiatives to keep our supporters engaged and to keep growing our donations so that we can ultimately make a difference right here in our own backyard. The sad truth is that 60,000 of our neighbors in DuPage County are at-risk of going to bed hungry every night and 20,000 of those are children.”

Every golfer will get their own golf cart and there will be 18 twosomes teeing off in a shotgun start at 6:15 a.m.

In perfect conditions, it should take about 11 hours to complete the marathon. The opponents are the elements and the sunset.

The Fighting Hunger Games

The Battlefield: Maple Meadows Golf Course in Wood Dale, IL.

The Date: Friday, June 19th. 6:15AM Shotgun Start.

The Cost: Each golfer will raise $2,500 in pledges.

The After-Party: All pledgers, sponsors and donors will celebrate with the golfers beginning at 5:30 PM. Dinner, DJ and top-shelf open bar. If the golfers are still on the course, revelers are welcome to observe at spectator holes 9 and 18, so come early. Get a beverage and cheer them on. Safe travel home will be provided for anyone, as needed.
