Mayoral Hopeful Gets Politicians' Support
Four aldermen announce their support of a candidate for mayor.

ELMHURST, IL — Four of Elmhurst's 14 aldermen revealed their support for mayoral candidate Scott Levin in a statement last week, saying he can build consensus.
The aldermen — Ward 3's Dannee Polomsky, Ward 1's Marti Deuter, Ward 5's Tina Park and Ward 2's Bob Dunn — announced their backing of Levin, a Ward 5 alderman, in a letter to the editor of the weekly Elmhurst Independent newspaper. Also signing the letter were two former aldermen — Ward 5's Chris Healy and Ward 7's Pat Wagner.
Levin is running against Ward 3 Alderman Michael Bram and Ward 7 Alderman Mark Mulliner.

In the letter, the aldermen described all three candidates as consistently voting in Republican primaries. "But only one candidate has the leadership skills, outstanding record of dedication to our community and the background necessary to lead the City of Elmhurst as we enter a post-pandemic landscape. That candidate is Scott Levin," the letter said.
The aldermen noted that when Mayor Pete DiCianni stepped down in 2014, the City Council unanimously voted to appoint Levin as acting mayor. They said the decision showed that the other two mayoral candidates, who joined in the unanimous decision, agreed Levin is a "Leader Among Leaders."

They noted that Levin, a lawyer, provides free legal assistance to numerous local nonprofit groups, leadership with the Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and service as a board member in local organizations.
The aldermen said their votes have differed on a number of issues, but they are unified in their support for Levin, "with his demonstrated willingness to listen to a variety of opinions and to consider multiple perspectives."
"More importantly, Scott draws upon that consideration to effectively build consensus, which is essential for a city leader," the aldermen said.
Patch is unaware of any other aldermanic endorsements in the mayoral race. Mayor Steve Morley, who has issued no endorsement, decided against running for a third term.
Earlier this month, Ward 6's Alderman Kennedy, who is not seeking re-election, argued against Bram's candidacy in a letter to the Independent, but did not say who he would support.
