Mazzochi Hosting Senior Fall Prevention Seminar

State Rep. Deanne Mazzochi to host an in-person event for seniors and caregivers on preventing falls that could lead to loss of independence

State Representative Deanne Mazzochi (R-Elmhurst) is hosting an in-person seminar for older residents and their caregivers looking for information, exercises, and tips on how to stay balanced and avoid falls.

“People, especially around the holidays, get busy and anxious, causing them to be less careful and lead to potentially dangerous situations where they can injure themselves,” Rep. Mazzochi said. “Our seniors are especially at risk, and this workshop will help them learn preventative measures.”

Falling down is the biggest source of injuries in adults over 65, whether it is due to balance issues or simply an errant electrical cord. According to the National Council on Aging, every 11 seconds, an older adult visits the emergency room for a fall. The seminar will help teach seniors how to keep their balance and prevent the falls and injuries that could lead them to losing their independence. It will be led by a licensed physical therapist and the manager of rehabilitation services at the DuPage Care Center.
