Men Found With 4 Guns, 2 Of Them Stolen: Elmhurst Cops

Police say the men were believed to be tampering with an ATM.

ELMHURST, IL — In the last few days, Elmhurst police arrested eight men on a variety of charges. Here is information from the reports:

Weapons violations

  • Alfred Scott, 24, of Burnham, was arrested about 8 p.m. Tuesday at West and St. Charles on charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon (four counts), possession of a machine gun and marijuana possession. In the same incident, Jamonte Sawyer, 21, of Chicago, was arrested on a Chicago Police Department warrant and a charge of obstructing identification. Both were taken to the DuPage County Jail. According to police, officers received a report that the men appeared to be tampering with a bank's ATM. They came into contact with Scott and Sawyer. The men agreed to let police search their car. That search yielded four guns, two of which were found to be stolen; several pills of a controlled substance; marijuana; and multiple checks and debit cards with different names on them.

  • Jaxson Taylor, 18, of Chicago, was arrested about 5:30 p.m. Monday at Elmhurst University, 190 Prospect, on a charge of violating an order of protection. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail. According to a police report, a woman said she received an electronic message and an email from Taylor, violating the order of protection. Police contacted Taylor and arrested him when he showed up at the police station.

Resisting officer

  • Michael D. Knight, 35, of Villa Park, was arrested about 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Charles and Villa on charges of resisting and obstructing an officer, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and failure to give information after a property damage accident. He was released on bond. According to a police report, Knight left the area after getting into a small crash, but officers found him shortly afterward. He refused to talk about the incident or provide insurance information. When an officer told him he would be arrested for the hit-and-run, Knight pulled away from the officer.

  • Olvin M. Hernandez Gonzales, 30, of Orlando, Florida, was cited about 2 a.m Tuesday at York and Church on charges of no valid driver's license and operating an uninsured motor vehicle and speeding. He was released on bond.
  • Ronald Gangler, 52, of Glendale Heights, was cited about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at West and Utley on charges of no valid driver's license and disobeying a traffic control device. He was released on bond.
  • Ronald L. White, 48, of Sandwich, was arrested about 5 p.m. Tuesday at York and Fremont on charges of driving with a revoked license and operating a vehicle while using a phone. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.
  • Victor Carteno Arias, 26, of Chicago, was arrested about 6 p.m. Wednesday at Route 83 and Second on charges of no valid driver's license, operating an uninsured vehicle and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. He was released on bond.
