DARIEN, IL – Darien police on Tuesday declined to release the report on the 2019 invasion of a house in a local neighborhood.

Earlier this week, police told Patch that Joseph Covington, 26, was arrested in Chicago on Oct. 25 in connection with the invasion.

Afterward, Patch filed a public records request for the report. In denying the records, the police gave their reasoning.

"The Darien Police Department is at a critical point of the investigation that requires that all information be kept confidential until additional charges and/or potential arrestees are finalized," the police said in an email.

Police cited the exception under the state's open records law for the release of records that interfere with law enforcement proceedings.

They also said divulging documents could "unavoidably" disclose the identity of a confidential source who was the only one who provided particular information.

The home invasion occurred Nov. 26, 2019, at a house in the 1100 block of Belair Drive, police said. The victim was described as a woman in her 20s.

Patch's story this week on Covington's arrest detailed what police said after the 2019 invasion.
