Free and open to the public, the Conservatory offers visitors a lush escape into nature with three distinct indoor showrooms — the Mediterranean Room, Tropical Room, and Desert Room — each showcasing a diverse collection of plants from around the world. Outside, the urban gardens continue the experience with native Illinois landscapes featured in the Elsie Jacobsen Discovery Garden and Rubinstein Garden. Sweeps of prairie grasses and native blooms welcome you at the entrance, inviting you to slow down and explore this hidden oasis in the heart of the village. Owned and operated by the Park District of Oak Park, the Conservatory provides year-round opportunities to connect with nature through programs, events, and community initiatives. Get ready for a summer of FUN! We have a variety of summer camps designed to offer something for everyone. From our popular Rising Star and Super Star Camps to our Camp Shorts and Nature Mini Camps, kids will find a way to grow, explore, engage, and play! Rising Star Camp is for children ages 3-5 and runs 8:30-11:30am. With lower staff-to-child ratios, a dedicated space for the needs of younger children, and trained staff, this camp offers our youngest campers the care and attention they need for a summer of growth and fun. Super Star Camp, for children ages 5-12, is our full-day camp from 8:30am-3:30pm. It is full of games, arts and crafts, outdoor exploration, and water play days. Each week features a new, exciting theme, with special guests and other surprises throughout the summer. Camp Shorts offers flexible half-day options tailored to specific interests like theater, STEAM, crafts, and more.
