Most Virus Patients At Elmhurst Hospital In 10 Months

ELMHURST, IL — Elmhurst Hospital on Wednesday reported the most coronavirus patients in 10 months, more evidence of the latest surge in the pandemic.

In a news release, the hospital said it was treating 37 patients with confirmed cases of COVID-19. Thirty-two of the patients are unvaccinated, while three others are vaccinated. Two are undetermined.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 211 people have died of the coronavirus at the hospital, with the total increasing by one in the last week, according to hospital statistics.

Wednesday's number of patients is the most since Feb. 2, when the hospital reported 36.

The hospital's high was 84 on Nov. 17, 2020.

The hospital serves an area far greater than Elmhurst, but the city's increase in cases is telling. Last week, Elmhurst experienced 151 new coronavirus cases, the highest weekly total since early January, according to the DuPage County Health Department.
