ELMHURST, IL — In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled calls involving porch piracy, domestic disturbances, a chronic nuisance, the theft of lottery tickets, a bitcoin scam and window damage. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Porch piracy

  • A man walked up to a front porch and stole four packages about 8 p.m. Wednesday in the 200 block of North Clinton Avenue. Surveillance video showed the suspect carrying the packages away and into a compact car. The resident was later notified by Berkeley police that the empty packages were found behind a restaurant. An investigation is pending. The man was described as 20 to 30 years old and wearing a white hoodie with dark lettering on the front, a black jacket, black jogging pants with white lettering and red high-top gym shoes with white soles. His race was not given.
  • A UPS driver notified a resident in the 300 block of South Argyle that a man stole a package from the resident's front porch. The suspect left in a white or gray pickup truck.

Domestic disturbances

  • A domestic disturbance occurred about 4 p.m. Thursday at Myrtle and North. In a phone call, a woman told police she got into an argument with her cousin, but it did not become physical. When asked for the cousin's information, the woman ceased communication with the officer. The case is pending an investigation.
  • A person in the 100 block of East Lake Street reported domestic battery incidents since March 1, 2019. The case is pending an investigation.

Chronic nuisance

  • A chronic nuisance warning was issued to a house Thursday in the 400 block of North West Avenue.

Theft of lottery tickets

  • A suspect stole lottery tickets about 3 a.m. Friday at the front counter of Shell gas station, 926 N. York St. The suspect left in a blue Honda Civic, which was reported stolen in Mount Prospect. An investigation is pending. The suspect was caught in another jurisdiction later that same day. Charges are pending.

Bitcoin scam

  • A resident in the 300 block of North Highview Avenue received an Instagram message Friday about investing money in bitcoin. The resident sent money to a suspect before realizing she had been scammed.

Window damage

  • A rock was thrown through the front window of a house about 10 p.m. Friday in the 200 block of East Park Avenue.
  • A rock was thrown through the window of a house about 10:30 p.m. Sunday in the 100 block of Elm Tree Lane.

Suspicious pile

  • Multiple piles of screws were found Sunday on the fourth floor of the parking deck at 149 N. Addison. An investigation is pending.
